Historic Preservation

After careful consideration, CIVITAS supports the Frick’s intent to expand; however, we do not support the current design proposal. We strongly recommend the Frick revisits the proposed design and presents alternative expansion plans to the community including plans that would incorporate and/or preserve the garden.

CIVITAS supports the nomination of Park Avenue between 79th and 96th Street to be designated a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places and as a New York City local historic district.

The Park Avenue Christian Parish House, located at 1010 Park Avenue, was deemed a “no style” building by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC), a determination that allows a building within a historic district to be demolished with a staff-level permit. The Extell Corporation has proposed demolishing the Parish House to build a condo tower.
