Frick Collection

After careful consideration, CIVITAS supports the Frick’s intent to expand; however, we do not support the current design proposal. We strongly recommend the Frick revisits the proposed design and presents alternative expansion plans to the community including plans that would incorporate and/or preserve the garden.

The Frick Collection is proposing to construct a 106-foot tall building on the Russell Page designed garden. The expansion will provide a more spacious reception hall, a larger conservation lab, a below grade auditorium and education center, offices, a larger museum entrance and a loading dock. The plan will create a passageway linking the museum to the Frick Art Reference Library in addition to opening up the mansion’s second floor to visitors. The former living quarters on the second floor will become new gallery space.
