Felipe Ventegeat

Since receiving a Civil Engineering Degree from Manhattan College in 1972 and an MBA from Columbia in 1977, Felipe has been active in development and construction in the tri-state area, with an emphasis on East Harlem and adjoining boroughs. Among his numerous projects are twenty affordable townhouses on East 111th / 112th Streets and the 125th Street Pathmark Retail Development, both in East Harlem, and shopping centers, schools, affordable housing and offices in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens.   In addition, his company, Gabriel Associates, has provided technical advice and direction in real estate development and construction to non-profits, community groups and corporations. He serves on the Business Resource and Investment Service Center (BRISC) Board of the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone and was a board member of the Construction Financial Management Association.

Felipe grew up in East Harlem and was raised in a community-oriented environment. Petra Allende, his mother, was a community activist who served on Community Board 11.  Felipe and his wife, Sandra Talavera Ventegeat, a social worker, reside in East Harlem and have three sons.  They support events sponsored by Women of El Barrio, El Museo Del Barrio, The Museum of the City of New York, Hope Community, Operation Fightback, the Third Avenue Merchants’ Association, and others. They are members of Saint Cecilia’s Parish.

Felipe has been an active member of the CIVITAS zoning, development, and executive committees, and was President from June 2010 through June 2016.  As co-chairman, Felipe brings to CIVITAS a new perspective, years of on ground experience in development and construction, and a long held enthusiasm for the CIVITAS mission.
